Yesterday, being Father’s Day, we decided to take an afternoon off and play a family version of Monopoly. Now, even when we did extended games in 6th grade, I have never really played Monopoly until the end, when someone actually wins, but I guess there’s a first for everything, right? =)
The game started out innocently enough. I started buying everything I landed on that was above the reds, and by the time all the properties were finally distributed, I had on my list all three of the yellows, Boardwalk, Baltic, and three RRs*. I traded Baltic and 10M over to my brother for Park Place, and started building houses like mad. My sister went bankrupt first when she landed on Boardwalk with 4 houses, my father followed suit by landing on Park Place with a hotel, and my brother finally lost when he landed on Marvin Gardens (or one of the other yellows, don’t remember which) with a hotel.
So yeah. In all, the game took about 2 hours, but it was fun and now I can finally say I played it to the very end (playing online with Kiwtu, Ben, Kae, Kat, and Rii doesn’t count!) I took pictures to commemorate this occasion (and as proof or it didn’t happen) but I can’t seem to find the digicam..
* actually, the version we played was the Here & Now version, which has different property names, but I use the traditional ones since that’s what most people can recall and understand
